Cover Reveal! - Reinventing Claire by Darian Wilk

Image
I love cover reveals! The first sneak peak to the beautiful book that it can be. I am so excited to be part of the cover reveal of the next contemporary romance novel, Reinventing Claire by my dear friend Darian Wilk. I adore the cover. The colors, and the whole theme relaxes me and makes me curious to know how Claire re-invented herself. And if her first book ( Love Unfinished . My review here .) was any indication, this book may well be the next romance must-read novel! And now, ta-da!! What do you think? Claire has no choice but to take on the title of Divorced Woman, and face the question she has no idea how to answer. Who is Claire without Charlie? Her family believes her newly divorced woes can be cured by jumping back into the dating scene – and landing herself a boyfriend. With her dating dunce cap in hand, Claire stumbles her way through the foreign territory of online dating. A teacher from hell, a stalker, and a softball coach later, Claire proclaims herself the ...

Behind the Veil: My Experience with Hijab By Pavarti Tyler

Image
Hello all, I have a very special friend today, Pavarti Tyler on my blog. She is fun, thoughtful and very talented when it comes to books. Have you heard of her latest book, Shadow On The Wall? Quite an unusual story bordering on controversy. But well, isn't it time to remove the red-tinted glasses and try another view? Pavarti is here today with a small experience of her own. Please join me welcoming her to my blog! Hijab is the headscarf some Muslim women wear.  There is great debate over the need, use and appropriateness of the hijab, which has fueled cultural debate and conflict.  In Islam there is a cultural practice of covering a woman’s hair and neck, this is considered modest dress and the roots of the practice are based in the Qu’ran.  There are multiple surahs (verses) and hadiths (oral histories) which are used to explain the need for men and women to dress modestly. The specifics of what needs to be covered is controversial.  Some say only the ...

Image
Today I welcome a Laura Vosika, author of the Blue Bells Triology. If you are interested in historical tales, that too set in the magical Scotland, and time travel then you are in for a treat! This book has caught readers unawares. Some readers have found this book better than the Outlander series! If you want to see more of what readers think about this book, click here.  I am honored to have her with us today. So, here we go with our questions!  Hello Laura! Tell us something about your new Blue Bells Triology. Blue Bells of Scotland is a story of mistaken identity, time travel, and medieval adventures.  It's the story of two men, polar opposites but for their looks and love of music, who switch places in time.  Shawn, a self-centered musical phenomenon of the twenty-first century, finds the fate of medieval Scotland on his irresponsible, womanizing shoulders, while the devout medieval Highland warrior, Niall, finds himself caught in the roiled waters of S...

10 Things I Wish I Would Have Known BEFORE Writing My Novel

My second special guest is Emlyn Chand, author of Farsighted. This book is so hot today that people are lapping it up before you even blink. A multi-cultural, unique story that a lot of people are extremely happy about. I am very excited to read it too and will post a review soon. Emlyn is guest posting today and she has some great tips to share! Thank you Emlyn!   When did you have enough confidence in your abilities to officially call yourself a writer? For me, it was when I first received money for my work as a freelance columnist. For you, it may have been when you finished the first chapter of your first novel or won a prize for a short story. Maybe you never had any qualms about saddling yourself with this label. Maybe you still don’t consider yourself a “real writer.” Me? Now I know enough to see that I was a writer long before someone handed me that first paycheck. It’s kind of something you’re born with—like it or not. But being an author, that’s different. The te...

Reality Can Be Stranger Than Fantasy: Georgia Saunders

Image
Literary fiction is a genre fighting for attention as the current popularity of fantasy draws us away from reality.  Perhaps reality has become too tough to spend any more time in than we must.  Dragons, fairies, vampires and dungeons, magic spells and broom sticks excite the imagination and give us a break from the humdrum world of .9 to 5.        Yet sometimes reality can be stranger than fantasy, especially when that reality belongs to a group of people right in our midst whose experience we know little about.  Like a trip to another planet, or a parallel universe, seeing our world through the eyes of the homeless who struggle for survival all around us can immerse us in an alternate reality all the more astounding because it is not a fantasy at all, but an all too real horror.      What happens when a middle class American woman falls into homelessness through no fault of her own?  How is she treated o...
